Wind energy has been around for a looong time. humans throughout history have used this renewable energy source to power their farms and cities.
good things about wind energy:
because wind energy has evolved over time, it has slowly developed in efficiency until we received our current source, wind turbines. although dependent for a windy day, they can be very productive and a good example of said productivity is of some cities of the u.s that use the turbines to generate most of their electricity. wind energy is classified as a renewable energy source and can be used well in certain areas of a region to generate vast amounts of electricity, up to 6 million KWh a year! That's enough juice to power 1500 average homes with electricity.
bad things about wind energy:
as with most sources of human energy gathering, wind energy is somewhat dangerous to animals and plants. specifically certain species' of bats and birds. with tweaking and time hopefully the issue goes away. there is also the fact that some people see wind energy farms as eyesores. which can also be harmful depending on how you look at it.
how much does it cost to build a wind turbine?
well...
$1.3 to $2.2 million dollars. Spare change? anyone??
And then it costs $3 to $4 million dollars just to install a turbine, so it is kind of rough to boast all those benefits and downsides, then cost this much.
did you know that wind turbines were invented in 1888 by a man named Charles F. Brush. Good man, gave me a project to do. :)
